Good morning,
We successfully finished our first full week of school! It was a great week with learning, exhaustion, and fun mixed in. This email is lengthy because of all of the beginning of the year information so I appreciate you taking the time to read it. This week we began working on reading and writing stamina, choosing just right books, and narrative writing. In Social Studies, we are learning about rules and laws and the officials of our country, state, and city. Math has focused on various types of graphs and a lengthy quarter 1 pretest. Next week, we will begin place value. As you have seen, the red Take Home folder has been coming home each day. Please look at this folder and then have your child put it in their backpack to bring the next day. It is very important that this folder comes to school each day so that I can send home graded work and papers from the office. On Monday, I will be writing your child’s student number inside the folder and putting a sticker with MobyMax login information. Last week, I sent home a letter about connecting with our Class Dojo. Soon, Mrs. Rhodes (Art) and I will be connecting in Seesaw. I use Seesaw as a student directed way to share their creations and work with you. I will send home this information soon. If you were at KSE last year and connected to your child’s Seesaw, you will probably also receive a notification through the app. Reminder: Open House is this Monday, August 12th from 6:30-7:30 in our cottage. I hope to see you all there! On Monday, we will be changing our morning meeting room. We will now be meeting in the Music room. This will allow us to leave the building right at 7:40 and be in our cottage for the announcements and to begin our day. Since our Specials time goes right until dismissal, I forgot to remind the students on Friday afternoon. We did talk about it in class, but if you will please remind them. There will be other 2nd grade teachers in the Learning Commons if they forget and they will send them down to the Music room. If you are interested in being a room parent, please let me know. Thank you for those of you that sent in class snack! We have already been using it regularly. A few reminders about snack and food in the cottage. Students are only allowed to have water in class. Please do not send in any juice for snack, only for lunch if you choose. While I do provide a class snack, it is not an unlimited supply. I’ve talked with the students about this as well, but please send a snack from home if you are able. Class snack is for those days when a snack is forgotten. A few class reminders: ~Please email me the Stem challenge that was sent home last week. I love the ones that I’ve already gotten! ~ Please let me know via email or note if your child will be checking out early so that I can have them prepare their backpacks since we aren’t always in the cottage and they cannot go out there alone. For parents of children with allergies: While I encourage parents to do the Birthday book I sent home at Sneak-a-peek, children often want to bring in food treats. If your child has food allergies and you would like to send in a treat that can be kept in the classroom for food celebrations, please let me know. Upcoming events: August 12th: Open House 6:30 16th: Library Orientation 23rd: Monterrey Spirit Night 28th: Early Release/STEM Pep Please see the email below from Nurse Hanlan: Jen Hanlan, RN, BSN King Springs Elementary (K-2 campus) School Nurse 678-842-6944 ext. 344 Hello parents! The Back to school germs are here and spreading like wild fire, we need your help to make sure we keep our kiddos healthy and safe. Here are some important reminders regarding medication procedures and guidelines for staying home/coming to school: Medication must be brought to the front office or school clinic by the parent/guardian except as otherwise permitted. An “Authorization to Give Medication” Form JGCD-2 must be completed and filed with the School Clinic. Medications must be in original containers with label. The link to the form canbe found here http://www.cobbk12.org/centraloffice/studentsupport/schoolhealth/medicine.aspx . Even cough drops are considered medication and must be administered by district guidelines. FAQsand answers can be found here. http://www.cobbk12.org/centraloffice/studentsupport/schoolhealth/docs/GeneralClinicInfo/SHS_FAQs.pdf It is very important to avoid giving medicine in the morning for headaches or sore throats, this masks the signs and symptoms of illness. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your school nurse with any questions or concerns regarding medications at school. Thank you for taking part in keeping our students healthy and safe!
