Happy Friday!
I hope your child came home and told you about our first laptop day! Today wasn’t as much fun as it normally will be, but we did accomplish the Reading and Math Inventories. Next time we will be able to use the laptops for learning and creating. Last week, our class pet, Snuffles began coming home. I read the book, Rex, to introduce this idea to the class. The black lab (stuffed animal) was revealed and the students voted on his name. 😊 Each Friday (except holiday and break weekends) I will randomly choose the stick of a child to bring Snuffles home. His journal comes home with him. Students will spend the weekend with Snuffles and then write about their weekend. This is a great way to practice writing and share the fun of the weekend! If Snuffles comes home with you, I’d appreciate it if you could toss him in the dryer for 30 minutes on Sunday before he comes back to school. Enjoy when it is your turn! I noticed that the weather next week looks rainy. Since we are in and out of the building and it isn’t covered, I would encourage your child to have a rain jacket that they can take off and on. Our first book order is due Wednesday next week! I sent this home at Open House. Ordering online is easiest. Our class code is MDV28 For every book you order, I get to order 1 or more for our classroom! The library schedule is changing somewhat so we are going to try to do some check out during morning choice time. I will send a few students in the mornings to exchange their books. We will also have a time for story in the library, but the mornings will allow students to change books as they finish. Just a reminder that all transportation changes require a note sent in to me. Please also send a note if your child is attending a club. We cannot accept transportation changes via email, phone, or student. Thank you for your support in this. Mystery Reader sign-up is here! Please pick one time in the fall and one in the spring to allow all families to have a chance to sign up. Please let me know if you cannot make the assigned time and we will work something out. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080C4CACA923A2FD0-mystery1 Curriculum Updates: Reading: Story structure, using illustrations and words to understand characters, events, and setting Writing: Personal Narratives Grammar: Common and proper nouns Math: Place value, skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s Social Studies: Regions and rivers of Georgia Important dates: August 19-23: Clubs begin 28th: Early Release/STEM Pep Rally September 2nd: No School 6th: Progress Reports 11th: Block 18th: Block 23-27: Fall Break
